The Hochwald greets you with irresistible charm: vast, unspoilt forests at 400 to 700 metres above sea level, hidden lakes and moorland, forest wildlife as companions on the trail – and in autumn the haunting calls of rutting stags. After a generous breakfast, where you are welcome to put together a complimentary packed lunch for your tour, you set off refreshed into the Hochwald's pure air. In the evening, our cosy restaurant awaits with seasonal, hearty cooking – or the quiet that you will find here like almost nowhere else.

One of 111 premium hiking trails in the region – the circular loop around Schillingen offers breathtaking views and starts directly from our front door.
Saar-Hunsrück-Steig
The renowned long-distance trail winds right through the Hochwald. For Steig hikers we offer a free shuttle service – we pick you up and drop you off again the next morning.
Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park
Just 20 minutes away by car. Experience guided ranger tours and discover the forest and wildlife in a completely new way.

Five secure garage spaces are available for motorcycles – so your bike can spend the night safely under cover.

A complete toolkit is available for minor repairs. For more substantial work, the "Vogel" workshop in the village is just around the corner.
Winding Dream Routes
To neighbouring Luxembourg, through the Saarland, across the Hunsrück with its valleys and ridges, or into France – the region offers biker routes full of sweeping bends and panoramic views.
Drying Room at the Entrance
A drying room for wet motorcycle or hiking gear is located right at the pension entrance – so you can start fresh the next morning.

Impressions from the Hochwald
20 years of "Qualitätsgastgeber Wanderbares Deutschland"
The quality initiative "Qualitätsgastgeber Wanderbares Deutschland" (quality hosts for hikers) of the German Hiking Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Certified houses specialise in hikers. The criteria include drying facilities for equipment, luggage transfer to the next accommodation, a first-aid kit for hikers, meals freshly prepared with regional products, refilling water bottles and staff who know the local trails and give individual tour tips.

Blister plasters and a sewing kit are available in our hikers' and bikers' lounge – for small mishaps after long tours.
Shuttle service
A shuttle service is available for our cycling and hiking guests. We pick you up from the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail free of charge and take you back there the next day.
